The Exclaim iPad Presentation Project

Exclaim, a marketing and creative services company, had previously developed an interactive presentation for a major client to use intrade shows and conferences. The presentation, written in Flash, was displayed on a large format touch screen.

Since the presentation was an effective sales tool  the client's sales represenatives desired a way to take the presentation to prospective customers. After evaluating a variety of alternatives Exclaim and the client selected the iPad as an affordable means to do that.

Since the iPad doesn't run Flash we reimplemented the presentation for the new platform. We also adapted the content to fit into the iPad's 3/4 aspect ratio. While faithful to the original design we even improved the presentation a bit, adding gestures and other minor flourishes.

In the meantime we can describe some of the app's features. We had to create a number of different interactive media elements: custom animations, image maps,  media catalogs,  coverflow, and carousels.  Along with those interactive elements, we presented movies and text with a variety of appearance customizations.

We also had to mimic the navigation of the original presentation, which was similar to, but not quite the same as standard iPad navigation. We implemented slide, fade, and cut transitions to match the originals in the Flash application.

Recreating the user experience of the original presentation on the iPad required a lot of attention to small, even finicky, details.  The result, however, more than justified the effort and the client was quite pleased.
